About Me

Hi, I’m Sonya. I am a primary teacher with 26 years of experience and, for the past 24 years, I have specialised in supporting children with special educational needs as a Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENDCO). I am also a Level 7 qualified dyslexia assessor and specialist teacher, based in Little Sutton, Cheshire.

I provide professional educational assessments, specialist teaching and support for children, families and schools across Cheshire, Wirral, Liverpool and the wider North West.

As a qualified dyslexia assessor, I carry out full diagnostic assessments for dyslexia for children and young people up to the age of 16. I also provide a range of cognitive and literacy assessments to help identify potential barriers to learning and build a clear understanding of each child’s individual learning profile.

Alongside my work with children and families, I offer flexible Specialist Teacher Support for schools. This has been developed from my own experience as a practising SENDCO and my understanding of the increasing pressures schools face when trying to access timely specialist support. Services include screening and assessment, specialist literacy intervention and SENDCO consultation. Giving schools practical access to specialist expertise when they need it.

I hold a Bachelor of Education (Hons) and a PGCE in Specific Learning Difficulties and I am qualified to deliver specialist dyslexia tuition. Throughout my career, I have supported children with a wide range of additional needs and worked closely with families, schools and other professionals to help ensure each child receives the understanding and support they need.

My approach is child-centred, thorough and compassionate. I aim to help children understand how they learn best, develop practical and effective strategies, and grow in confidence.
